Really, not much has changed since the 80's except, perhaps, the house prices...

Isadora Watts' Transatlantic Tales: Farewell City of Angels: "Besides the people who made it so easy to be here, and made it so hard to leave, the three things I will miss most about Los Angeles are:..."
I couldn't have said it better myself.

From the musically sublime... to the ridiculous
Today is a good day for musical hard-ons. The Arctic Monkeys are performing at the Hollywood Palladium in June and are being supported by The Vaccines. Good god I think I may faint with horny musical anticipation.
In the meantime, the Future Director and I are going to see er, Bryan Adams. This, my friends, is revving up to be one weird Saturday night out. For a start we are dining at The Cheesecake Factory (Did you need the weird digital hostess on their website? Negative.), which is an offence to France in itself. France representing all that is holy about gastronomy, The Cheesecake Factory representing everything that is wrong with America in a restaurant. Then of course there is the serenade to Kevin Costner that will follow. I am trying not to judge, but all I can see is this:
Is that much leather a turn on? I think I need to take a cold shower and stop thinking about The Vaccines...

Because everybody needs a little Italo-Disco...
Hot Hollywood Handsome will tell you what you need before you even knew you needed it. Like this:
SONG OF THE DAY: BOB SINCLAR – FAR L’AMORE FEAT. RAFFAELLA CARRA

Summer is here and what better way than a little italo disco! French dance lord Bob Sinclar takes the classic 1976 top hit from Italian Goddess Raffaella Carra, A Far L’amore Cominica Tu and gives it a funky redux for his latest upcoming release.

Subscribe to his blog 'Matter' on art, fashion and style at this link. And as an aside, how does one acquire the title of 'dance lord'? Because it sure as hell sounds more fun than 'writer'. I bet there's some fool tooling around town right now with that on a business card, that, and 'producer'...

Genetically Engineered to be Brave and Free
I'm just going to go all out from the beginning and start with a nice WTF ('What the FUCK?' to the lesser foul-mouthed amongst you)?!
Is this how my new homeland views itself? Didn't our boy Don (Draper, keep up) say something along these lines re advertising?
Ah yes, here we go, the gods of Google have spoken:
Don Draper: "Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It's freedom from fear. It's a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you're doing is OK. You are OK."
So what, prey tell, does this:
say about the American people?
Because brain-washed to be brave and free springs to mind. Remember Dodge?
Applying the Draper theory then (coming to a university near you soon...), I would wager that every American that reads this ad is sitting somewhere in his car alone trapped on the 405 and shitting himself (= English expression for fear) about the state of the economy. There's nothing Brave or Free about it...

Baby's First BBQ
Given my on-off love affair with the Land of the Free, it's been a long time in coming, but I finally got my ass down to a real BBQ shack which just so happens to be conveniently located at the bottom of my street. The Handsome Neighbour came along too, it's not a hardship given his love affair with soulfood, and I needed expert guidance from a pro.
You know the drill by now: a picture speaks a thousand calories...
And so the slippery slope to lard-arse begins...

LOL
Napkin? They don't call this fine dining for nothin...
No not garlic cloves, chillis, in a whisky bottle.
Beans not Heinz.
And so the slippery slope to lard-arse begins...
Welcome to America, go big or get the fuck out
So, Middle Class Crisis of the day? My TV is too big for my miniscule sitting room. Seriously it's massive, look:
It could occupy the chaise longue all on its own. And I'm pretty sure that pound for pound it weighs more than me. But why, you ask, would I purchase such a monstrosity? Well apart from the fact that I will now have a life-size Ed Westwick in my home at the mere flick of a button (does this make me an Armchair Cougar?), we can blame the fact that I don't understand the size of anything in inches (a bonus for the boys, I'm sure you'll agree...) Believe me however, when I tell you that nobody needs 42 inches. No, no... not even you.
